OUR STORY

2005 – Going Global
By 2005, the team had grown to five employees and four new contracts! Four of those team members still work with us today, additionally we continue working with the Naval Sea Systems Command (NSWC) Indian Head Cartridge Actuated Devices / Propellant Actuated Devices (CAD/PAD) Program. Launching from Alexandria, Virginia, Culmen officially went international, establishing an office in Kyiv, Ukraine by the end of 2005.

2008 – Global Expansion
Our work with the DOE sent six employees to four countries: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, and Thailand.

2011 – First Acquisition
Having built a strong customer foundation, we now needed to expand our team even further. We made the first of many acquisitions, adding Sweet Analysis Services to our team.

2018 – Second Acquisition
We were awarded one of our largest programs to date with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Threat Reduction Logistics Services (TRLS) contract. Continuing the path of growth, we made our second acquisition, gaining Analytic Strategies, helping our team cross over 100 staff.

2021 – Internal Growth
We structured our three Operating divisions: Global Security, Intelligence, and Logistics (GSIL); Global Advisory and Management Services (GAMS); and Technology Solutions. Having gained our first contract with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 2020, we executed an Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Unaccompanied Children project in Dallas, Texas. The company was now mostly remote due to Covid-19.

2024 – New Culmen Era
As Culmen entered its 20th year, it was time for a refresh. We moved offices to a modern, open concept environment that fosters collaboration. We launched a new logo and solidified our brand identity as a global firm. We now have over 450 staff members, experience in 153 countries, and staff permanently stationed in 42 countries.
2004 – From Alexandria to the World
In November 2004, founder Dan Berkon launched Culmen International from his home office. Culmen joined a project with Defense Threat Reduction Agency Cooperative Threat Reduction Advisory and Assistance Services, as a subcontractor to SAIC. Dan chose the name "Culmen International" to represent his aspirations to help customers reach new heights, as in Latin, the word "Culmen" means "Summit." This goal of accomplishing critical mission continues to be a pillar of Culmen's mission today.

2007 – Building Our Foundation
The next step was growing Culmen’s customer base and creating a strong foundation from which we could grow. We gained our first major contract with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and we embarked on a significant, ongoing project with the Department of Energy (DOE).

2009 – Customer Connections
With new contracts rapidly flooding in, we expanded our horizons to the Department of State (DOS). Our first DOS contract with the Export Control and Border Security program (EXBS) became one of our strongest programs that we still support today.

2015 – Global Expansion Continues
We stood up our presence in France by sending five employees to work on a new project with the DOE. We also gained our very first contract with a United States Combatant Command (COCOM).

2019 – Financial Growth and Third Acquisition
Our next point of growth came through our third acquisition of Centrifuge Analytics. Paired with the previous acquisition of Analytic Strategies, we increased our technical capability offerings. We had major financial growth and gained Hale Capital as a new minority investor.

2023 – New Health Opportunities
The fourth acquisition was with Vysnova Partners. This acquisition doubled the size of our team, opened up new opportunities in health security and public health work, expanded our executive leadership team, and brought the number of countries with active projects to over 100.
